Big Bass Return to the Races Slot Review: 96.07% RTP, 5,000x Max Win and Golden Cup Free Spins

2 October 2026 · 9 min read

Big Bass Return to the Races swaps the lake for the racecourse. It is a Reel Kingdom game published by Pragmatic Play, released in February 2025, and it is a separate game from the earlier Big Bass Day at the Races, which has a higher cap and different mechanics.

The bonus has two modes chosen by a card pick: standard free spins, or Golden Cup free spins. This review uses the provider’s own page for the main facts and names the independent source behind every other figure. We have not played the game.

How to play and stakes

The grid is 5 reels by 3 rows with ten fixed paylines. Wins need three matching symbols from the left, and the wild appears only during free spins. The base game is a way to reach the scatters, shown as horse and jockey symbols according to one reviewer.

Third-party stake ranges vary, from 0.10 to 250 or 375 globally. OLBG lists 10p to £5 for the UK, which matches the UK stake limits for online slots: £2 a spin for 18 to 24 year olds and £5 for those aged 25 and over. Autoplay and turbo are for non-UK players only, according to OLBG.

RTP: which figure applies

The official page lists 96.07%. OLBG and Bigwinboard both report two lower settings of 95.07% and 94.07%. Casino Wizard lists four settings including 92.07%, and OLBG separately lists a Jackpot Bonanza version of this game at 92.07%, which suggests the lowest figure may belong to that variant. These extra figures are third-party reports, not on the provider page.

UK casinos can run different RTP settings, so the information panel in the game at your casino is the figure that applies. OLBG says the 96.07% stays the same when you play the ante bet or buy a bonus.

Volatility

The provider does not label volatility. Bigwinboard, Casino Wizard and Vegas Slots Online call it high, while OLBG rates it 5 out of 5 and describes it as very high. Both labels mean the same thing in practice: long runs of small returns with the bulk of the payout inside the bonus modes.

Max win

The 5,000x maximum is reported by Bigwinboard, OLBG, Gambling Zone, Casino Wizard and others, with no source disagreeing. Bigwinboard, OLBG and Casino Wizard give the odds of reaching it as 1 in 3,378,378 spins, which is a reported figure and not an official one.

At UK stakes, 5,000x converts to the following:

Stake Max win at 5,000x
£0.10 (typical minimum) £500
£1 £5,000
£2 (18 to 24 limit) £10,000
£5 (over 25 limit) £25,000

The £2 and £5 rows only apply to players within each age band’s limit. Be careful not to confuse this game with Big Bass Day at the Races, which OLBG lists at 10,000x.

Free spins and the Golden Cup round

Three, four or five scatters award 10, 15 or 20 free spins. If two land, the provider says a third can be added, and Vegas Slots Online describes the reels nudging down with respins.

Before the bonus, you pick one of 12 cards that decides which round you play: Free Spins or Golden Cup Free Spins. In standard Free Spins, wilds collect the values of all money symbols on the grid. In Golden Cup Free Spins, the grid is emptied and only money symbols, wilds and blanks remain, and the round starts with 10 spins whatever the scatter count.

In both rounds, every fourth wild awards 10 extra spins at a higher win level. The levels are 2x, then 3x, then 10x on the fourth level.

Ante bet and bonus buy

OLBG says the ante bet adds 50% to each spin while the RTP stays the same. Bigwinboard describes two bonus buys: 100x for either free spins mode, and 270x for Golden Cup free spins specifically. Both are third-party reports. Availability to UK players differs by casino, so check the game’s information panel.

Symbols and paytable

Bigwinboard lists ten pay symbols: ten to ace, then horses, binoculars, beer, boxes and a champagne bucket. Five of a kind pays the following according to that source:

Symbol group 5 of a kind (x stake)
Card ranks 10 to A 5x to 10x
Horse, binoculars, beer, box, champagne bucket 20x to 200x

One third-party site, Stake.us, lists much higher payouts such as 2,000x for the champagne symbol. That conflicts with the 200x tops reported elsewhere, so we treat it as an outlier and do not use it.

Hit frequency and win rate

The provider does not publish a hit frequency. OLBG lists 14.29% and Bigwinboard lists about 1 in 7, which are consistent. Bigwinboard and Casino Wizard put free spins at 1 in 113. We quote these as reported, not official.

One caution: OLBG’s comparison table gives 11.76% for Big Bass Secrets of the Golden Lake, while other sources give 14.28% for that game, so the sources are not fully consistent across sibling games. SlotPal’s guide to hit rates in Big Bass and Eye of Horus calls this game and Day at the Races clones of each other, but OLBG shows different max wins and odds for them. That guide’s figures are modelled estimates, and we do not repeat them as fact.

How it compares with other Big Bass games

Compared with Big Bass Day at the Races, which OLBG lists at a 10,000x max win, this game has half the cap but a much better quoted chance of reaching it: 1 in 3,378,378 against 1 in 14,321,518. Compared with Big Bass Secrets of the Golden Lake, the structure is the same, with a card pick and a second bonus mode, but the setting and symbols are different.

Is it enjoyable? Our verdict

This section is based on mechanics, provider rules and independent data. We have not played the game.

The Golden Cup round is the most interesting part, because stripping the grid to money symbols, wilds and blanks makes each spin a concentrated collect attempt. The criticisms are consistent: it is close to Golden Lake in structure, the cap is modest, and one reviewer says the series may have run its course. Independent scores are middling, such as OLBG at 2.8 out of 5 and Demoslot at 6.5 out of 10.

Verdict: a reasonable choice for fans who like the card pick format and want a horse racing theme. If you already own the Golden Lake experience, there is little new here.
