Its headline is an RTP of 97.24%, which is high for any slot. This review covers that figure and the other numbers you may see, the volatility, a maximum win quoted as 17,420x by most sources and 13,000x by two, the hit frequency with an inconsistency in the main source, and the UK stakes.

Overview

The slot is built on Big Time Gaming’s Megaways engine in an unusual way. The base game has five reels with between two and seven symbols each, which gives up to 16,807 ways. In free spins, cupcakes extend reels toward 12 symbols high. The theme is a sunlit enchanted forest with a hookah smoking caterpillar watching over the reels.

OLBG calls it one of the best Megaways slots, and online-slot.co.uk says it offers the highest RTP of any Megaways slot. The graphics are not as sharp as newer releases, but the mechanics are the draw.

How to play and stakes

There are no paylines. A win needs three or more identical symbols on adjacent reels from the leftmost reel, and the top symbol, the Red Queen, pays for two. Only the highest win is awarded.

Sources disagree on the stake range. OLBG’s details say 10p to £20, its summary says 20p to £5 or £50, and Big Win Board lists 20p to £50. UK Gambling Commission rules cap slot stakes at £2 for players aged 18 to 24 and £5 for players aged 25 and over, so this review uses 10p, £1, £2 and £5 for its examples.

RTP and the versions you may meet

OLBG gives the RTP as 97.24% and says only one version is available to UK casinos. Online-slot.co.uk agrees and notes that the higher figure of 97.77%, which comes from buying the Feature Drop, is not available to UK players. Several other sites also quote 97.24% in normal play and 97.77% with a bought feature. Four outliers do not fit: one lists 96.4%, one lists 97.72%, one gives 97.77% as the headline for what appears to be the sequel, and one lists 96% as a second version. We could not read a Big Time Gaming page, because the game address returned a 404, so these are third party figures.

UK casinos can run different RTP settings on some games, so the help screen at your casino is the figure that applies.

Volatility

OLBG and most review sites class White Rabbit Megaways as medium to high volatility. A few say high, and a few say medium. We follow the majority. The 26.7% hit frequency suggests regular small wins, while the free spins carry most of the large results.

Max win and what it is worth in pounds

Most sources, including OLBG, give the maximum win as 17,420x the total stake. Two sources give 13,000x, and one of them says that is the figure Big Time Gaming itself states. A further site lists 17,416x and an outlier lists 500x. We could not read a provider page to settle it, so we follow the majority figure and show the 13,000x alternative as well.

Stake Max win at 17,420x Max win at 13,000x
10p £1,742 £1,300
£1 £17,420 £13,000
£2 £34,840 £26,000
£5 £87,100 £65,000

These are theoretical ceilings, not typical results.

Caterpillar Wilds

In the base game the Caterpillar can randomly come to life and blow up to 12 smoke rings. Each ring adds a Bonus Wild to the reels. OLBG says up to four Bonus Wilds can land, each with a 2x or 3x multiplier, and that when several are part of a win their multipliers multiply together.

Down the Rabbit Hole free spins

Landing the March Hare scatter on reels 2, 3 and 4 together starts 15 free spins. Cupcake symbols in the round replace themselves with two new symbols, which adds one symbol to that reel. Each reel can reach 12 symbols, and if all five do, there are 248,832 ways to win. Fully extending a reel awards 3 to 12 extra free spins and turns the reel into a Queen’s Reel with higher paying symbols. OLBG reports a maximum of 60 extra spins, which makes 75 in total.

OLBG also notes a Feature Drop that lets players outside the UK buy the feature, and says it is the first Big Time Gaming slot to include one.

Symbols and paytable

These are OLBG’s reported payouts as multiples of the total stake. Stacked royals can transform into character symbols such as the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter and Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

Symbol 3 of a kind 4 of a kind 5 of a kind
9 0.1x 0.2x 0.6x
10 0.1x 0.2x 0.7x
J 0.1x 0.3x 1.3x
Q 0.1x 0.3x 1.5x
K 0.2x 0.3x 1.9x
A 0.2x 0.3x 2x
Green or blue gem 0.3x 0.5x 2x
Red gem 0.5x 1x 5x

The Red Queen pays 2x, 5x, 10x and 25x for 2, 3, 4 and 5 symbols. The Alice Wild lands on reels 2 to 5 and substitutes for the paying symbols.

Hit frequency and win rate

OLBG, a named independent source, gives the hit frequency as 26.7% in its summary box and table, and online-slot.co.uk, nzcasino and Slotozilla repeat 26.7%. OLBG’s own text, however, says 27.6% and a win every 3.62 spins, which conflicts with its own table. We use 26.7%, since it appears in more places, and flag the inconsistency. We could not read a Big Time Gaming page, so there is no provider confirmation.

SlotPal’s hit rate guide covers Big Bass and Eye of Horus only, so it has no White Rabbit figure to compare. A hit counts any win, including ones below the stake.

Is White Rabbit Megaways enjoyable? Our verdict

This verdict is based on mechanics, provider rules and independent data. We have not played the game for money.

It is one of the better balanced Megaways designs. The RTP is high, the hit frequency is respectable, and the free spins build in a way that gives the bonus real structure. Its weaknesses are a dated look, a maximum win that sources cannot agree on, and the reliance on free spins for large results. It suits players who like Megaways slots with a bonus that develops over time. It is a poor fit for anyone seeking constant action. Our verdict: a strong, well regarded slot whose main appeal is its numbers.
